LADY BIRD (2017) presented by Girlhood

May 17 : 4:00 pm 6:00 pm

“Lady Bird combines wisdom and tenderness, humor and grace. It’s light-footed without being lightweight. And it captures, with great feeling, the turbulence of a girl growing up.” – Film Companion

Fresh off the heels of Mother’s Day, Girlhood invites you to dive head-first into the complexities of the mother-daughter relationship in LADY BIRD. A powerful solo directorial debut film from Greta Gerwig, LADY BIRD pairs humor with the tumult of adolescence in an authentic, fresh take on the coming-of-age story. Christine, or as she calls herself “Lady Bird” (Saoirse Ronan), is a high school senior with big dreams of ditching her hometown for college in New York. But as she tiptoes the line between child- and adulthood she constantly butts heads with her mother (Laurie Metcalf), whose more practical approach to day-to-day survival clashes with Lady Bird’s independent spirit. In LADY BIRD, Gerwig examines not only the “teenage tropes” that come with adolescence, like first loves and shifting friendships, but also the sometimes harsh lessons that come from learning more about your parents.
