Based on one of Stephen King looniest novels, John Carpenter’s Christine tells the horrific story of a 1957 Plymouth Fury, nicknamed “Christine,” which begins enacting violent revenge on anyone who wrongs its meek-mannered new owner. What could have been pure camp is rendered by horror master Carpenter as a lunatic rock ‘n’ roll nightmare, full of brutal kills, vicious attitude, and chrome-plated vengeance. Carpenter himself composed the film’s atmospheric original score, which is backed up by some rockin’ classics, including George Thorogood’s “Bad to the Bone,” which serves as Christine’s all-too-apt theme song.
